This page is still under construction. However, because this is of some concern for a few people I will just fill in what I am discovering.
What I have on my radar:
Sodium metabisulphate
seems to have a big impact either on my immune system by lowering it or on my lectin concentrations, because soon after taking it I become quite ill from virus. Sometimes that genuinely is down to some lectins promoting the spread of virus, through mechanisms still being investigated. However, here is an
MSGs seem to affect me too. Some evidence of this might be having the same chinese meal from two different establishments. Admittedly it is only guess work on my part, but it does seem possible. I had half duck and egg fried rice and some French red wine from a resturant that local chinese people also chose to eat from. There were no problems with my health after this meal. However, three days later I had exactly the same meal from a take away only chinese. Again with a bottle of French red wine. For four hours my heart began to pound and it kept me away until late into the evening. One of the other consequences of eating this chinese meal with MSGs (in my opinion), was that my eye sight took a downward trajectory, in that my eye sight became blurry.
Potassium sorbate
E202, synthetically manufactured, also a replacement for parabens, this seems to give me a general down turn in my health. Admittedly in this case potassium sorbate is often used in products that may also contribute to a general down turn in health, like too many carbs or ice cream. However, some products come with it in and some without it. For example. If I eat humous with it, I feel worse for it, and if I eat humous without patassium sorbate I do not notice a general down turn in my health. From my reading on gut flora health it seems that some products that extend shelf life, do it by killing bacteria and mould, and so as a consequence some of these preservatives might have the same affect on our own gut flora if we eat it. My experiance suggests I agree this this.
It is probably for this reason that sausages not containing sodium metabisulphate, but instead contain sorbic acid has continued to give me problems. With the consumption of these sausages I have also found an elevated heart rate. On this subject of foods giving me problems, just like the artical says, some wines especially sweet wines are almost impossible for me to tollerate.
Emulsifiers
carboxymethylcellulose and polysorbate-80, these emulsifiers seem to have gone rather unnoticed to many of us. However, it might be worth mentioning that they are often used in vegtable and animal stock, chocolate, ice creams, salad dressings and coffee creamers etc. So getting a foods free of emulsifiers might be a good idea. The reason is they are often used to help fat and water mix. This may be a little troublesome for our bodies if we consume too many of them, because the brain is made of mostly fat! Also all our cells have a membrane around them made from fat. If the barier between what is inside and what is outside each of our cells begins to break down then it might be fair to say that this is not good. Some evidence is emerging to support the theory that emulsifiers might be bad for in this report from a quality chocolate manufacturer.
It was interesting to me to see that stearic acid is a common additive in processed foods generally. It says that some estimates suggest upto 7g a day.
Here we see evidence that SiO2 causes inflamation in the lungs, but I guess the exposure here needs to be in dust form. As a consequence of this further investigation into intestinal inflamation was pursued.
I personally find that sodium metabisulphate particully bad, when it comes to lowering my immune system and getting viruses.
I also find nitrates, like potasium nitrate to be difficult to consume.
